    CX are ultra compact 39/46 for example – unless it’s CX1 by sram.

    Not a huge number of people still using anything as big as 46 for cross either. 38/46 (or similar) used to be the norm when we all had 130bcd cranks. More likely to be something like 36/42 ish on a 110 bcd now. Or a single ring.

    But yes, it’s always been “last years” road race bike cranks with smaller rings for racing cross.

    Smaller difference between big and little rings also means faster shift / less chance of dropped chain.

    CX70 = Ultegra
