Not sure it being a mechanic’s bike adds anything to the price. All the car mechanics I know abuse their motors so I don’t see why bike mechanics are any different. What size is it out of interest?

If they’re a trek dealer then he paid half of retail for it (assuming they still do that for dealer staff)

Shop mechanic supposed to suggest well maintained rather than bought at cost I assume? 🙂 some of the worst kept bikes I know are owned by trade types, last thing they want to do is work on another bike and can afford to neglect it til something breaks as parts are so cheap in the trade.
Probably keep the “mechanic” bit for eBay and gumtree…
