Except the pub is a tent, the beer is possibly the cheapest real ale in a pint glass you will find south of Nottingham, and the jukebox is that ace band that played Sabbath covers. Rawk! It has all been very good natured in the BBB pub last 2 years and Luke got loads of Blandford Fly in too. (ahem)

Well, I’m a very nice, properly brung up working class boy with nice manners

considering the posts on the ‘how old are you?’ thread i’d expect you all to be dressed up in cardigans and sensible shoes with a pint of half finished niche/posh ‘real ale’ about to tip onto your lap as you’ve all bored each other to sleep/in need of a nap after a gruelling 5mile bimble.

Depending on time of year, I’d be wearing the inevitable pair of shorts, with either Vans or Oakley tactical boots, a band teeshirt and whatever outerwear is appropriate for the weather. Which I think is what a 57 year-old should be wearing.
I think I’d particularly enjoy a couple of pints or so with elfin, we could talk architecture and Macs all evening. 😀

Well I hope it would turn to be a philanthropic lot as I’d have to take up a collection to cover my airfare from New Mexico to the UK and back.

I suppose it’d reflect the forum, some I’d speak to, some I wouldn’t and others I imagine would just not register as being interesting.

Kev; that’s pretty much uncannily like how it is! Maybe without the insurance advice though not heard boring stuff like that I’d tell someone to stop being boring if I heard crap like that in a pub ffs!

Over the years, I reckon I’ve ridden with, and probably ended up in a pu with at least for a bit, probably as many as you elf… Never once has conversation turned to gear ratios, what tyre, mortgages, getting a baby to sleep, or any of the other countless recurring topics on this forum…

Usually what happens is not wholly dissimilar to any ordinary folk meeting, just we’ve all had a shares specialist interest.. You get lots of observational based humour, my insane appetite for food gets questioned, then when everybody’s broken down the barriers and got to know each other a little bit, talk turns to possible future rides and where to have them. Common interests are a great leveller, it’s amazing how in person people will put aside their often quite significant differences just cos they share one common interest.

Of course, you do get the odd keyboard warrior that in real life wouldn’t say boo to a goose, but they’re easy enough to spot anyway… Usually they’re still wearing entirely cycling branded clothing still whilst in the pub!
