So I have registered myself for a race next month which is 190km long with 45km of apparently brutal pave 😯 . I’ve heard that wheels collapse, forks break and some riders have bloody hands at the end of the race. I think it’s going to be too brutal for my nice plastic road bike so I was thinking of using my steel crosser. But which tyre set up? They stipulate a maximum size of 28mm. Any tips?

What is the event btw? I’m intrigued!

It’s in the eastern part of Germany. The first 100km are like a randoné and the last 90km a race (or so I have been led to believe). There are loads of old cobbled roads round these parts with some in a shocking state of disrepair. If I do go with low pressures though, wouldn’t that put me in a disadvantage on the 145km of road?
