Thinking of getting a Turbo but the question is which one. Are the Elite Magnetic ones from Halfruads any good , as i get 25% off there. If not what is a decent reasonably priced one? And do you need to change the tyre (im told they get very hot) to a turbo one etc etc..

    Cheers in advance

We got a Trax one after a lot of research. A specific tyre is a worthwhile investment; they’re smoother so less noise, and hard-wearing.

High on bikes have got some good prices on Kurt Trainers at the moment.

The Kurt ones are way to expensive for my budget unfortunately. Is there any preference for fluid over magnetic?

He you considered rollers, infinately more pleasurable, can be had for litte money and no faff of rear tyre swaps?

I bought an elite fluid one from wiggle recently (£140) and it’s decent. A lot quieter than the cyclops mag one it replaced.

I’ve got an Elite mag. It’s adequate to my needs is all i can say really. I’d spend a bit more if you can justify it and think you will get a lot of use out of it. I bloody hate turbo sessions.

Whatever you buy, budget for a trainerroad subscription as well.

I have the Elite magnetic one from Halfords and while it is adequate, now that I realise I use it more than I thought, I wish I had invested in a better one. Tis a bit noisy, but I can live with that. Also pretty well made so no complaints there. However, the level of adjustment (5 levels) seem pretty close to one another. I realise running only a 35/12 front/rear combo doesn’t help, but it is certainly nowhere near enough resistance to stand up in the pedals and if I want to get HR to max out I have to bounce my knees off my chin at a cadence of about 130 in top gear and top resistance.

If you have the budget a Wahoo Kickr and a trainer road subscription. Makes Turbo training reasonably fun 🙂

Depends what tyre you have. If its anything but pretty slick it will create a lot of noise. If its pretty slick then no should be fine.

Without putting a damper on things, don’t waste too much money as most turbos are bought with the best of intentions and are used less than a handful of times each year.
