After seeing this, I think “want” just turned to “need” http://singletrackworld.com/2015/04/fresh-goods-friday-239/

A tip I’ve found invaluable, and one that negates compressors/expensive pumps like the bonty, is that when you try and inflate the tyre, just press down on it where the valve is. Seems to stop air leaking straight out of any gap next to the valve and has allowed me to inflate tyres that I’ve come close to giving up on.

I make do with a cheap Joe Blow track pump for this and has worked every time. You’ve still gotta pump pretty quickly but I recommend trying it.

You just haven’t tried enough times 🙂 There are some combos (usually reusing stuff after a winter in storage) that just won’t work without that rush.

I think the Bonty is the best solution I’ve seen, just a bit spendy when you can get something that does a few other jobs besides for less (in fact my old man got his from a auto jumble for £10). If you don’t need or want the other stuff I’d get it.

I may buy one yet, as it is no doubt a better hassle free travel option – good to hear it’s working for people.

Triton cycles have it for £84 but stock seems to have properly arrived as its appearing in stock in a lot of places.

Question (possibly stupid) for anyone with a flash charger, does the head fix to a valve OK with the core removed?

Possible stupid question #2: With a pump like that can you get away with just putting the sealant in from the get-go?

Possibly, that’s what I did on my setup last night. I have dt Swiss x470 rims, stans rim strip and specialised purgatory tyres. They inflated fine without any soap/water so I took them off the rim and popped some sealant in and reinflated all with the core still in the valve.
I had given up on that setup ago in the past as it defeated co2 canisters but that was new tyres these have had tubes in for a few months.
Overall I have been very impressed with the charger.

I put the sealant in first with my Flash Charger.

Wonder whether a ghetto inflater will arouse any suspicion at check in. Don’t think I will take it in my hand luggage.

I’ve never taken one in hand luggage, only in a hold bag. Although as it’s only a couple of feet of plastic tube and a bottle top you wouldn’t think that there’d be much for them to complain about – you know what airport security is like though…… 🙄

I can imagine me with my bottle and tubes combination appearing on an episode of ‘UK Border Force’ with a couple of customs officers debating whether it was drugs paraphernalia or some kind of device for sexual gratification 🙂

Once you are confident it works every time that is what I’m thinking.

all with the core still in the valve

and this I find amazing, even using a compressor I take the cores out.

SOLD, I should be picking one up later.

I use a 7 litre garden spray pump from clas olsen. Pump it up and with a little o ring on the trigger fitting fits nicely onto valve with core removed. Bit of soapy liquid on stubborn ones but not had a fail yet. ( All Scwalbe tyres)

Depends how long your valve is, I’d have to hold mine on as there’s not much exposed. Same with any track pump.

Persoanally I never remove valve cores. Fit tyre, with sealant and inflate straight off. Just adds an extra step having to remove bits and add sealant separately and what not!

You could make a ghetto inflator with all the gubbinz in the bottle top, that way if you’re travelling you just need to take the tubes and cap and leave the bottle at home, easy.

Though personally I haven’t found them to be much use at all tbh- I built one for the lolz and it’s never inflated a tyre that I couldn’t get up with my track pump. (to be fair, my track pump is ace at tubeless, very high volume, maybe the ghetto inflator’s more valuable if you have a less good pump?)

Has that always been the case or just since you’ve had the flash charger? For me leaving the core in makes track pump seating very, very unlikely for a new tyre.
