Need to remove the pivot bearings from my Cannondale Prophet. Tried unsuccesfully to bodge it but would like the proper tool before I do some damage.

What tool do i need to remove pivot bearings?

Well, the way I see it you got two options (if the bearings are press fit like most are).
1) whack it
2) whack it harder
3) really whack the sh*t out of itIn all seriousness tho - you could either buy a set of drifts from B&Q - various sizes of things to knock things out with; or get some thick steel strip also from B&Q and cut it to the same width as the diameter of the bearings. That way you can knock it nice and firmly and it'll come out a treat. Someone probably makes a special tool but all it'll be is a CNC version of the above. If you're lucky there'll be a 3rd party one that you can buy (like you can get for changing the bearings in Shimano BB cups) or you'll have to get one from Dale which will cost you hundreds most likley, since it'll be made for bike shops

you need a drift,something smaller than the pivot shaft you feed it through the opposite bearing then tap the other bearing out, aim to tap the internal part of the bearing a bit at a time 12 oclock 6 oclock 3 oclock 9 oclock
tip tap not bish bash a wooden dowel should do take youre time if you hit one side too much you might jam the bearing.One of mine had siezed on the shaft
so grease the bearing seats (metal to metal contacts)when installing the new ones

I pressed my bearings out on my prophet using a bolt and some washers - tightened the nut - hey presto

DIY press using a 'G' clamp and some suitable sized sockets (old ones!), used successfully on a san andreas and Orange 5 (until i discovered the bash it with a mallet method!)
