Leave them with TJ, he could do with some 1st hand experience before commenting on the parenting threads. 😀

Camera Obscura is great – there’s lot of other stuff in the exhibition
    Museums

Castle is always worth a visit if you haven’t been for a while.

There are a few places which let you paint your own pottery. That seems to fascinate them for a while (you need a return visit after firing so not good if you’re only here for the day).

Ski-ing at Hillend. Ice-skating at Murrayfield.

Deep Sea World if you have transport

    camera Obscura – excellent
deep sea world – magic, but it’s over the bridge so transport needed
boat trip to the forth islands, weather dependent, but good fun. transport not an issue as trains will take you to sth queensferry

castle is overrated imo, so is dynamic earth

EDIT – oh yeah, mary king’s close, booking needed – it’ll scare the crap out of them, always a fun thing to do with kids

My niece and nephew (7 + 9) came to see the Pandas with the Grandparents. Day after I took them to Ratho climbing… Pandas? What Pandas?

    Zoo
    Butterfly Farm
    Castle
Various museums on the Royal Mile – Museum of Childhood, Camera Obscura etc.
    Chambers Street museum

Deep Sea World is ok, Dynamic Earth is very over-rated.
The Museum of Flight in East Lothian is good

camera obscura and deep sea world.
Dont bother with dynamic earth – kids expected dinosaurs and hands on science experiments. Not impressed with learning about the environment

Do kids that age still play in parks? There’s an award-winning park at the east side of the meadows that kids seem to love – free entertainment for an hour and the meadows are a nice sort of area within walking distance of the centre.

Craigmillar Castle. Best hide and seek ever. It’s a very extensive ruin that has lots of battlements and dungeons to explore.

The Royal Museum on Chambers Street is brilliant for kids. Everyone loves it.

There’s a Gala day on Leith Links as part of the Leith Festival. There’ll be the usual fun fair.

Portobello beach if the weather is good.

    Zoo. Pandas.

Speaking of which, do you know what the pandas at Edinburgh zoo get for lunch?

If you are coming into Edinburgh Central bring cash. Just spent most of my lunch hour finding a working machine and queueing.

show them the intro to Trainspotting, then get them to film a reanactment of it on Princes Street, with iggy pop blaring on a boom box.
