When the going just gets horrible and cornering grip becomes secondary to just gaining some foreward movement, whats the tire of choice?

2.1 size if you can find a pair…. be lots cheaper than other makes of mud tyre, and will be their equal in performance.

naaaa, 2.1 swampthings are good in thin mud and mulch, what's best for the kind of stuff that pulls your shoe off when you dab?

maybe the 1.8 panaracer mud X would be better when its really, really sticky..

Panaracer Trailraker. 2.1's for traction through bogs but still enough volume for the downhill bits

Panaracer 2.1 Trailrakers, cut right to the bottom of the gloop and find something to propel you forward. Not good on wet rock though.

    Edit – beaten to it.

Halo Knobblers are excellent and cheap but will drag a bit on the road.

spoon – the conditions of which you speak seem to be similar tot hose i experienced at just about every SSMM/24twelve i've done

my above recommendations were heavily researched and i'm sad to say bought specifically for the sole purpose of one event

the Tioga deals a bit better with roots as it has proper knobbles and is a slightly softer compound and was bought for 24/12

the geax performed excellently at SSMM in the wet and was bought to cope with the horrendous clingy mud

I'm running around (near Reading also) on a Trailraker 1.95 on the rear and a Maxxis Medusa 2.0 on the front. The maxxis is smaller volume by far. Both cut through to the bottom of the mud easily.

650c = 26" in roadie lingo (so a 650c CX tire should fit a narrow MTB rim without any bother)

I've got them on at the moment, good, but not 10/10 good! Bit skittery in the shallow stuff TBH :S
