I picked up a bottle of Old Pulteney Navigator on offer in Sainsbury at the weekend and its going down rather well. Others this year have been Jura Origin, Old Pulteney 12 yrd old, Lagavulin and an Ardmore.
A bit of a mixed bag, but the more I try, the more I seem to like.
I tried a Highland Park and a Glenrothes (not sure which one) at the weekend which were also excellent.
I need to try some of the Japanese ones next!

Oban, Balvenie (esp Doublewood), Dalwhinnie are all regular favourites

Laphroaig and Caol Ila.

I’ve just finished a glass of Kilchoman – a small farm-based distillery on Islay which grows and malts it’s own barley as well as bottling the drink on site. The ultimate STW drink.
When I can be arsed standing up and going to the kitchen I’ll pour one of Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Laphroaig, Mortlach or Singleton of Glen Ord (not sold in Britain apart from the distillery, bugger meant to buy a bottle when up in Inverness at the weekend)

EDIT – Lagavulin 16 it is. Could do with some decent dark chocolate though

Highland Park is a good, easy drinking malt. I also like Benromach.
Keep your eye out for stuff on offer, it often is.

macallan, edradour, jura superstition. having a jura now.

I’m currently drinking a 12 year old Strathisla, it’s very nice.

Oh, and then some rum. Lots of good rum. Mount Gay XO preferably.

Yamazaki distillers edition is a great intro into Japanese whisky and its pretty reasonably priced.
Other favorites are Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, glenfarclas 15yo and aberlour a’bunadh.

I’ve got the ardmore on the go at the moment (actually will be finished soon…) I like Highland Park, Talisker, ardbeg… the peaty ones. Caol Ila is also a good call, but I wasn’t that enamoured of the balvenie or the juras, I found them a bit thin

don’t discount blends though, they can be very good, and if you’re buying on the cheap then black grouse is good – Famous Old Grouse has a smaller proportion of Highland Park but in Black Grouse it’s the higher proportion 🙂

ed – Old Perth’s a good shout if you can find it. At a tasting session recently, it (cheapest) came second to a £200+ single malt

Currently sampling Glenlivet, could do with being a little more rich and fruity for my tastes.

I do have a bottle of that Yamazaki unopened, given to me as a birthday pressy last year.
And a little bit of Caol Isla Signature left that I bought some years ago.
I must see about getting some more whisky in, and some decent Bourbon as well…

I was at a friends the other night and had some Cragganmore which was mighty tasty–I haven’t developed a good taste for single malt yet, so maybe something to aspire to

Currently have a bottle of Drumbeg open (distilled in Fort William), it’s a 56.8% cask strength but goes down far easier than anything ever should at that strength. Also have some dregs of a bottle of Tobermoray on the go which is quite pleasant alongside the last of a bottle of Monkey Shoulder.

Springbank is another good shout, we got some as a wedding present and will be getting another when money allows. Bladnoch is another past favourite but the distillery has shut(again)so will be getting thin on the ground. is only shut to public, seems someone bought it 🙂

Jura doesn’t do much for me. Superstition is nice enough but nothing special, Origin is meh at best and Elixir just gives me headaches the next day from the slightest amount.

On this topic, we have £70 burning a hole in our pockets (saved up pennies!) and were planning on splashing out. What 2 bottles would folk recommend at around about the £35 price point? We both like whisky and rum and aren’t snobs about where it comes from.

Islay whisky usually my preference. But been really enjoying a bottle of Nikka Miyagikyo … different, but superb.

Recently ‘discovered’ Scapa 16 after a trip to Orkney. Now, we had just finished our day’s riding when I got a couple in with a pint of Orkney ale but they both went down VERY well.

Just the talisker, love it. Maybe something else is better but not found anything yet. My dad’s a macallan man and it’s nice for when you want nice.

Love Old Pultney, really nice hint of the ocean comes through in that.

Just drinking a Jura origin atm, don’t particularly like it to be honest, taste is mediocre but it smells horrible.

For my nice mild drink I’m mostly loving Dalwhinnie 15, then for a smokey glass of deliciousness, and Ardberg 10.
I think I’ve also got a couple of bottles of Jura open, just finished a Bowmore and another that I can’t remeber that I bought whilst drunk in France!

yeah, never really got Jura. Was on the island a few weeks back (mental definition of an A road by the way), visited the distillery and had a few tasters. Durach’s Own was ok but only at bargain bin prices, the others did nothing at all for me.
Still that’s the wonder of whisky – 3 ingredients all cooked in basically the same way producing a massive range of results.

I picked up some Jura Superstition cheap recently and was really happy with it, until I tasted it side by side with my Caol Ila 12yr… Oh well…

I need to replace my bottle of Nikka from the Barrel, it’s a cask strength whisky that just smells amazing when diluted…

My goto at the moment is The 16 year old Lagavulin, but still working my through all the different Islay’s, next on my list to try is the cask strength 12 year old.

We make a advent calendar every year with another Whiskey friend, both of us supply 12 different single malts, all samples are then bottled and numbered, it’s a good reminder of how varied Whiskey can be.

We did it last year and the 24th was a Port Ellen, expensive and it was the first time for me, so a nice one to end with.
