My son is after a second hand full suss bike and he’s looking to spend around the 400 – 600 £. He’s 6′ 2 so is gonna need a large. What’s the best bang for the buck to look for..2008 Kona?

An older Giant reign would be a good bet for that sort of price. Nice bikes

09 Konas onward have 1 piece rocker which is stiffer probably better for a big lad

Whatever you get factor in possible new bearings and rear shock service

You should get a 2009/10 Marin for that. My mate had one and it was very nice.

    Prophet +1.

You can get a Prophet frame for around £200-£300.

Full suss Kona’s of that era (Dawg etc) always struck me as a bit numb.

Or Giant Anthem’s can be had new for £899? Or a secondhand Boardman?

Lots of choices out there better and likely newer than a 2008 Kona.

I’ve got a large StumpJumper 2008 that I should get round to selling.. Well used but well maintained.. would probably comfortably fit in your budget (have to check but I’d think at or below the bottom end).

    Where are you?

Aberdeen – bit far for you to have a look at it. I used to live in Kidlington – that would have worked OK 🙂

Giant trance are light and reliable and don’t hold value that well.

I think i paid £850 for a 2010 fuel ex 6.5 2 rides old. So they should be in budget now

Seems to work and is air suspension at both ends…

I’ve a large Prophet MX (2008 I think), frame and Lyric forks. It’s been good for me (6 foot) running with a straight seatpost and 35mm stem. It’s a great bike – long / slack / simple. Only selling because I’ve gone 29er for all.
There is a lot of discussion here:

After £400 for frame and forks. Let me know if you’re interested or want more details, I’m in Surrey.

It’s this one (I bought it from here):

Trance X ? Friend of mine bought one via the classifieds on here for his daughter at about your budget.
I still ride a well upgraded 2008 Trance and it works very nicely for most things.
