More distinct states by which to define an order than just “Order Progressing”. Or a “Just send me a box of bits and I’ll build it myself” button in the checkout process.

    Should be:

    Order Placed
    Bits being picked.
Bits in a heap awaiting techy.
Frame in stand and order sheet being Read/doesn’t yet look like a bike.
Frame still in stand but now bike shaped
    Bike Built
    Bike in a box.
    Bike Dispatched

in short… I WANT IT NOW!!!!

sits back in chair with bottom lip out.

But I’m serious about the ‘box of bits’ option.

New Bike, road bike, DARKSIDE bike, with bells on, but not with an actual bell on. Its been like DAYS now, infact 11 whole days!!!*

*website clearly says their build time is 12 days but that’s not the point godamnit

I appreciate you’re being lighthearted but I’ll answer it seriously.

We* actually built in such a system to our checkout revisions a while ago and found that it massively increased the number of phonecalls from customers, people worry that it’s taken a couple of hours to go from processing to picked and then from picked to packed or whatever. People will call up to query what sort of box the product is going into and so on.

We turned it off as it wasn’t worth the time it took. This is why you can’t have nice things!

*Ecommerce store, different but comparable industry.

    Awwwwwww!!!

But you do get the fear when something sits at a stage for too long.

    This, basically

True, but for some people “too long” is about 15 minutes.

Indeed that is about 14.5 minutes too long.

I’m a bit gobsmacked people ring up to check on the box though.

Not sure what Ribble are like now, but when I dealt with the m a few years ago some extreme patience was required.

I bought a bike from them earlier in the year.
I emailed them and they told me how long it would take.
I’m sure your patience will be rewarded with an awesome bike.

To be totally fair, they are looking like they will come in bang on 12 days.

I’m not really complaining, just need an outlet for my inner child. Seriously about the box of bits button.

Seriously about the box of bits button

The probably have some contract with the OEMs that mean they can only buy bits at a certain price if they are sold as part of a complete bike. Sending to you as a box of bits would break that contact.

But yes – I’d much rather have a bike in 24hrs as a box of bits than wait 2 weeks for a finished bike. Building bikes is fun.

Still in Dusseldorf – yeah, then you wake up in the morning and it’s all happened.
