What power tools have most impressed you/ or you use the most?

For me it has to be my Bosch screw driver, it can do most of the stuff my Makita 18v combi drill can (obviously not hammer action stuff) & is about a quarter of the size/wieght with better battery life to boot.

I also asked about jigsaws a while back without great success it must be said, but I then went on to buy a Ryobi for £44 & it has been a reverlation power wise, it's happy to cut clean straight & curved lines in 1" ply, so much so when I was cutting out shelving I just doubled up on the board & it was still a powerhouse compared to my old wickes POS, the only thing that is bad about it is that it doesn't have a blower so I have to attach a hover or just blow on the line I need to follow to see it.

So what has been your best buy, or tool you now can't live without?

PS, I think I have a tool fetish bought on by the mechanics at work & there own snap-on obsession

Oooh - I might have a look at that Jigsaw.. I was given a POS bargain basement one, and it really is carp!

But on to your question...
My Hitachi 18v LIon hammer/drill/driver - light due to lion batt, and nice and powerful!

Couple of years old now and a bit 'consumer', but think my 14v Black & decker VPX cordless drill driver is ace. Use it for pretty much all drilling/driving/grinding jobs except for masonry where the Bosch hammer drill gets a rare outing.

Dewalt 18v impact driver. Awesome power, will joint two 3" fence post with a 5" screw with no effort.

Dewalt 18v impact wrench for changing car wheels etc. makes life so easy.

14v cordless drill (DeWalt) that was on offer at Screwfix. Nothing fancy, but just about 'right' for most jobs.

I also have a 24v Bosch hammer corldess drill that was pretty good, but the chuck has given up and the batteries weren't very quick release.

Not really mine but having only used a corded Bosch twenty year old hand me down drill using a Maikita 18V Li-Ion combi drill was a revelation. Made things so much easier.

My dad bought me a mitre saw which is fun as well.

without a doubt my Hilti cordless drill, they cost a lot but outperform everything else and are superb to use day in day out.

Stihl saw :-). One of the noisiest and most fun power tools I've used. Not sure it counts as a power tool but once had a go in a Volvo 340 excavator and that was fun too

I use a chainsaw at work that cuts concrete and rebar without missing a beat! Second favourite toy is a mini thermic lance type cutter cuts railway line in 10 secs!! ( not railway line in use I hasten to add)

I'll go with my Hitachi, 18V hammer drill too, Lion batteries and it's been amazing. The only issue has been one of my two batteries has died for some reason!

Lathes are pretty cool, you'd be surprised what can be done on a lathe. Large Hadron collider is a most excellent tool too! (I don't have work experience of a LHC)

I got an 18V DeWalt cordless drill at Homebase on special (£99, £150 at Screwfix) and it's practically built my house whilst taking an absolute hammering, cracking.

My Skil drill and Bosch sander and jigsaw have all done me proud. Had a little Dremel-type thingy from B+Q, only £15 but really useful for all sorts of things.

I'd really love a fully equipped workshop with loads of lovely woodworking tools in it, like a pillar drill, table saw, that sort of thing.

Not really 'impressive' per sé, but I've had stupid mileage out of a Black & Decker VersaPak set that I bought back in the late Jurassic.

I've got a quite frankly ludicrous powertool selection, but I'm with nealglover.

Dewalt 18v impact driver. Was totally blown away by the speed and power the first time I used it. Been hammered almost every day for the last six years now, still going strong as ever.

This lot belongs to my brother and i.

l-r mill, harrison lathe (made in uk!) gt avalanche, bridgeport cnc. Diy frame jig on table

tig with watercooler below, mig with plasma cutter on top, saw, compressor.

wheels on bits of equipment is a very good idea, especially when you are tight for space.

I have spent hours and hours in front of a lathe, mainly during summer holidays as a kid. Plasma cutter is fun.

My first sds drill was awesome, then I hought a big Hilti drill/breaker at a plant auction, Wow! I recently built a log splitter that needed a hydraulic power pack. I found one on ebay that came with a hydraulic jack hammer. I've only had a couple of shots with it, I need some serious reinforced concrete to try it properly.

Power tool I use most is my 20+ year old DeWalt mitre saw.

Darcy, would you spend your own money on the kapex? I've played with one a bit and didn't think it was £650 better than my Dewalt 717xps

Makita 18v combo drill and impact driver , couldn't live without them. Been faultless since 2008.

Makita 18v collated driver for drylinig. Just makes life so much easier.

Have also used Festool planers and drills , good but expensive.

A mate has an old Elektra Beckum mitre saw. The cutting action is super smooth , very fine machine

Katie's got an 18V Makita drill but just bought a 10.8v drill and impact driver set. The impact driver's an incredible bit of kit for it's size and weight.

Most of my tools are bosch professional with lithium batterys get used everyday there 36v hammer drill is brilliant have used it for fixing curtain walling brackets to concrete slabs with no worrys using a 16mm bit.

Just got a fantastic bargain on the makita 18v lxt 6 piece kit for 580 quid so will be testing that out over the next year or so.

Getting the job done...my circular saw...can cut 8*4 sheets of ply down to 'slightly too small' in a jiffy.

Making a mess...I used an electric wood plane to shave off an oversized bit of PVC trim. Two minutes later the garden and shrubs are covered in white snowy bits of plastic

If I had it to throw away, yes, definitely. But, it'll be a while before I'll be spending my own money on it. It was beautiful to use for a while though. There are some brilliant features. On a commercial job where speed was essential, it really worked well. I'd probably go for the Bosch if I was shelling out big money.

Tried the bosch, both 10 and 12 inch, wasn't impressed with the build quality considering it was nearly £200 more than the dewalt
