    My son spotted it on his trampoline netting, approx 3.5″ long, it stayed all day and then by chance i saw it take off at dusk.

    Bit of a beastie for the UK!

    Looks some sort of Hawk Moth.

    Looks like a privet hawk moth to me too. We had one of the caterpillars in our front garden. Fat bugger it was! Not my picture though.
