Going on family weekend to Hayfield. Is it worth taking the bike. Dont want to ride if its overly icy up on the hills. Thanks

As of last weekend, Sunken Road was still under a thick coating of icy snow (although the tracks above and to eitehr side of it were fine).
Chapelgate was clear and an absolute hoot. The gully below the gate is most amusing.

oh, and we did it on Saturday. I doubt it will have changed much

A little bit more snow fell on Wednesday night (seen from the train yesterday). There may have been more last night too...
The riding's still good though, if a little slower than usual!

Against my better judgement, went for a solo ride on Friday. Told the family I'd be 2 hours (Little Hayfield, up long bridleway to road above Chapel Gate, down Chapel Gate, up over Jacobs Ladder, back down via Edale Cross). Simples. Nearly 3.5 hours later, struggled back to the holiday cottage a mile North of Hayfield, frozen and knackered. Downhills were great, carrying bike up JL was not. Main issue apart from the deep snow was frozen snow repeatedly blocking up the SPDs, should have worn flats. Anyway, earned my dinner.

Yep, looked at the vid. Just had 1 of those little immortality and invincibility delusions. Just happens once a year or so....
