I've got a FS frame that's been stripped ready for primer and paint and I'm wondering what people have been charged for a respray, I'm not going to a specialist just a local car body place?

What would be a fair cost would you say?

    Thanks

from a car spray painters view, if the bike it primed prepped flatted etc to a good standard it would only take me 20 mins top to paint it. Degrease mix paint, flash off times etc.

I've not primed it just stipped and flatted. Still not sure I reckon 50-100 I suppose?? Powder coat doesn't have the colour I want.

Probrably go with about £60-£70 couple of hours to prep and paint it! Didnt take me much longer to paint my heckler, quick sniff of aerosol primer where i'd gone through flatted it off and made a booth in the garage.

Paint came from work all had to naturally dry with a bit of help from the space heater, Took me about 4 hours to do it and it be cured, Left it in the house for a few nights then built it up

Better to get it powdercoated- you said "powder coat doesn't have the colour I want" but powder comes in a vast range of colours and can be custom mixed, speak to Triple S, ESP or Aerocoat, you'll most likely find what you want. An industrial coater will only have a small range.

I have heard that baking a heat treated ally frame is not a good idea hence not powdercoating.

Besides I want a deep gloss metallic grey and I'm pretty sure powder wont do it.

Thanks for the tip Rich that does look a nice one I also like the look of Saab metallic steel grey.

Powder definately can do that sort of colour. Like I say, speak to a coater who knows their stuff, the 3 I mentioned are among the best. And don't worry about heat trearing, it's just not an issue.

If you want to go for paint that's fair enough but these aren't reasons not to powdercoat 😉
