Got a set of Superstar wheels with cartridge bearings. What grease is best to use, ive got weldtite lithium grease the white stuff, it looks like that has been used in the hubs already as it’s turned into a grey paste. Is it better to use a teflon grease? Oh and how much should I throw on.

I’ve always used park Polly Lube (http://tinyurl.com/p738jq8) in shimano hubs and it seems to hold. Where are you using grease in cartridge bearings?

Agreed with the weldtite stuff I rarely use it on bike bits although it’s good for sliding greenhouse doors

For hubs I like Shimano’s finest. Luminous green, smells good and doesn’t stick to your fingers

I pack my bearings with the finish line Teflon stuff. Pretty handy with the tube and applicator, seems to keep the bearings running smoother for longer. That post about heat build up and added torque, is it based in the likely rpm and conditions on an mtb? Surely the main reason for failure on an mtb would be from ingress of water? So the addition of grease will help to prevent this and is a worthwhile trade off?

CV grease from a car place, 1kg tub will outlast me. I use either that or copper grease for threads on my bike, bike specific products are just five times the price.
