What grease should i use and where?

I’ve got some random grease from a motor spares shop that i bought for greasing my tow ball!! It’s made by Total and is red, that’s about all i know about it. i’ve used this for greasing threads but was wondering if i used it to grease bearings will i die?

Should invest in something that cost’s about 3 times as much cos it’s ‘bike specific’?

your ‘random’ grease will be fine for pretty much everything accept inside calipers etc

    What he said above.

    Although I do use

    Rock and Roll
    Super Web – on bearings
Super Coat – on threads and press fit parts
Super Slick – inside suspension moving parts/seals
Finishline assembly paste – on non moving parts (seatpost and bar/stem)

£5/tub Coma type2 multipurpose grese would do most of those well enough, but it’s nice having the right tool for the job, and bikes use so little grease that tubes last years.
