My colleague doesn’t know the local area very well so is looking for a GPS unit with mapping to get from A to B. He currently uses Google maps on his phone but is finding it frustrating and battery draining. He’s looking for something with satnav like qualities such as, “I want to get to Paignton avoiding A roads” and isn’t at all bothered about most other data logging bits and bobs.

I had a look at the Garmin Touring and Touring Plus for him, but both got rubbish reviews for their mapping and battery life, which kind of makes them useless for what he wants.

Oh, also he’s not very technically savvy and has a temper so is likely to break something that gets him lost!

Any recommendations from personal experience? We can set it up for him as long as it’s then reasonably simple for him to use himself.
