It’s for a Christmas present and i have around £100 to spend.

The person it’s for isnt intersted in a smart phone, but a gps with specific geocaching features would be nice. Also something with a screen that shows local maps, so she can orientate off landmarks.

The Garmins all seem to be pushing the use of their own ‘open caching’ version of geo caching, so i wonder if they would contain features that would be annoying if you didn’t want to use ‘open caching’

    Anyone got any good suggestions?

    cheers

I know you’d rather not, but smartphone does it for us. Have you tried it? It just works.

Yeah I use my iPhone and the app is great, as you can tick off caches and comment etc.

But the person who it’s for doesn’t have a smartphone

Magellan make a specific Geo Caching device. The Explorist GC, comes pre loaded with loads of popular caches and is in your area of budget. Also has sexy colour screen and waterproof, nice to hold.

    Hope this helps

Garmin Dakota 10 – shop around and you may find one for not very much over your price. No expandable memory slot, but I use Open MTB maps on mine.
