An often asked question I know.

I was planning a week in Morzine in the second half of Aug which has fallen through. I’d still like to go somewhere, and as I’ll be on my own now a guided trip makes sense.

I’ve had a look at Singletrack Safari, Basque and White Room so far. I’d like a mix of riding, mainly uplifted. Probably a fully catered option best so I’m not out eating on my own in the evening!

Bike Verbier is out on cost.

Usual riding is Tweed Valley tech, more of that and maybe some groomed trails is what I’m after.

What else is worth considering? Cheers in advance.

White Room are good. Been twice, riding mainly singletrack descents following van or skilift uplifts. Good social chalet with communal breakfasts and dinners with as much beer/wine as you want included, so no worries going alone.

I’d stick to your original plan and go to morzine – I’ve done a week on my tod there before and made some cracking mates out of it. Never too hard to chat to people on the lift – it’s a pretty busy uk base. Hunting trails out in Norway would be an epic way to spend a week though… I’d love to go back with a bike and have a good nose.

If cost is a factor look at Bike Andalusia, David there quoted me a couple of years ago and it was a lot cheaper than the general alps fare mentioned above, I don’t know if I could stand the heat that far south in august though.

A guided fully catered holiday is imo a bargain when you consider what you get. You’ll do infinitely more riding (well at least double !) with White Room than in Morzine and on more varied / bigger terrain away from the crowds and the bike parks and their braking bumps.

Your list is a good one. Add Bike Riviera ?

these guys have taken over the chalet montana (Montriond, close to Morzine) now Zeb & Amie have moved to Vancouver Sound.

handy location and bargin fully catered rates. No real need for guided in such a well supported area, esp with this book in your back pack

and you never know who you might meet in the bar or on the lifts to hang out with for a day or two.

Thanks as ever for the responses.

I was actually riding in Morzine last year – I suggested it to my now dropped out mate because he hadn’t been before and I knew he’d like it. I had a great week riding there but I think the positive of having to go on my own now is that I can go somewhere new.

Will check out Switchbacks and Andalusia.

Norway also sounds like it could be an adventure – if you’re seriously going to be out there around that time and you maybe need a hand PM me with some more info?

Slight hijack on the subject of White Room

You’ll do infinitely more riding (well at least double !) with White Room than in Morzine and on more varied / bigger terrain away from the crowds and the bike parks

Anybody got experience of their Tour of Tarentaise?
Have booked on this after Trans Savoie Tour with TA fell apart.
Similar sort of thing? Looking for more tech than flow.

Just come back from a Basque Trip (http://www.basquemtb.com/) which was excellent (IMHO they’re the best I’ve been with so far)

For the time you’ve specified you’d be looking at the Basque Coast trip (which only includes breakfasts) – we had three people who’d come out solo on our trip and they joined us for evening meals & we had a good laugh, so I wouldn’t let this put you off

I’ve also been to Ridgeline this year (http://www.ridgeline.bike/), who were also very good – Rich has got a really good setup & I will definitely be going back again

Get in touch with Rich (Ridgeline) or Doug (Basque) to check availability – I know both only have limited availability for the remainder of the year

Andalucia in August would be a bit toasty for me.

I think you’d like the riding White Room offer, from your OP.

I have been with single-track safari in Andorra and Switchbacks in Malaga and can recommend both. Not sure what the summer option for switchbacks is like but the company is great.

I’m off with single-track safari to Andorra again this year (non guided) as it’s fun and I really like Andorra.
