  • What else is like an Orange Segment?

Shorter travel but still slacker than a racy/XC bike like a Top Fuel or Epic.

Smuggler’s the only one I can think of.

    The ‘new’ four?

Edit, scratch that, don’t think it comes in 29er flavour. Yet.

Kona Process 111 is another option but there aren’t many others out there

Yes, sorry tom, meant to put 29er in my post.

    Kona, noted, thanks.

    Are you a big lad?

Process 111 would be a superb choice, frame gives it an amazing level of stiffness for a 29er. And it rides incredibly well.

Banshee prime or phantom both have adjustable head Angel via chips at the rear axel.

Trek fuel ex 9, longer fork than other fuel models so a bit slacker.

I like the look of that Banshee Phantom

Transition smuggler, or the new yeti if you’re feeling rich.

I love my phantom. In Dundee if that is of any use for a look/play and bought from pedals in Edinburgh. My original thoughts are here. Lots of good reviews on the Web and won trail bike of the year from a German mag.

    Feel free to email me.

Another recommendation for banshee. I’ve got a prime which I think rides superbly, i like the way the ks link suspension works and its nice and beefy which I appreciate at 95kg. Phantom probably more appropriate given you’re looking for a segment alternative though as the prime is more monster truck despite only having 135mm at the rear.

Thanks Shackleton, might take you up on that if I’m over that side again. I shall have a look at the thread.

It’s steeper than either the Process or the Segment

Whyte m109. Definitely slacker than a proper xc bike and certainly more trail than race, despite being a 100mm bike. Got a medium frame for sale soon too 😉

Hmm… I’ve been looking at this lately too.
I have a T129 which is great, but can’t quite get the thought of a change out of my brain!
The smuggler and the following both get fantastic reviews but nether take a front mech, and I don’t fancy the Kona.
Which leads back to the outgoing model segment.
    Definitely a first world problem!
(If anyone happens to be giving away a large, please let me know!)

Devinci atlas takes a front mech. Outgoing frame too so few deals.

A grapefruit segment is a lot like an orange segment. A bit “sharper” perhaps.

Phantom takes a front mech too 😀

The segment also seems to come in for a bit of flack about being a bit bendy. Hopefully the new one has remedied this.

The Following does take a front mech (unless they’ve changed that?)

Specialized Camber. Nearly went for one instead of my Epic, but you can’t get the S-Works in this country.

The following takes a front mech, bit of a barstard to thread the gear cable but works fine. They’ve not bothered, or removed it for room for the suspension on the wreckoning & insurgent
