    About £70k at the moment…

Sir John Holmes, the chair of the Electoral Commission, said he was concerned that parties would come to see such fines as “a cost of doing business” and said the commission needed to be granted powers to impose heavier fines proportionate to the levels of spending.

No, I’d like you to be granted the power to have elections re-run (in those seats) and possible custodial sentences for those (either local or at the centre) responsible.

Of course, if we had a proportional electoral system, the potential for gaming it like this would be smaller.

In most walks of life when high level wealth is involved business, politics, sport, fines do not become a deterrent…. More just a cost!!

Electoral Commission only deal with the “National” Side of things, Local Plod investigate at a seat level and they can be called void if fraud is proven. Which maybe anything upto 20 seats and depending on the the view of the battle bus the CPS takes.

If it was that cheap and easy to win you’d have thought the other political parties would have thought of it.

@rather well with Labour and Tories against PR it won’t happen. Look at Holland, with 28 parties on the ballot paper you get the far right in joint second place

They have – the Labour party and the LibDems have already been given the maximum fines for misreporting at the last election.
