So dad has a birthday coming up and he is only interested in bikes… He has given me a few ideas but completely out of my price range i.e Garmin 510 and castelli kit…

I’m looking to get something bike related at about £30-£40. Any ideas welcome!

Got my Dad this at Christmas time. A bit of a laugh, bike related and a seriously heavy duty, should last for ever set of bbq tools. Win.

A gift voucher from a local photographer? Everyone likes photos of themselves getting rad on a bike.

As a cyclist I hate it when people buy me kit or equipment. I inevitably take it back. Not quite the right fit. Wrong size fitment etc. BUT I do appreciate the effort so the Park toilet and BBQ is just the right note. Books are a good bet and one for people of my era age (50ish) that I’m enjoying is Field of Fire by Jeff Connor. About the ANC team.

Favourite photo framed or blown up? Been using that one for a few years. Otherwise +1 for a meal – proper food too like pie & chips

    How about a “premium” multi-tool?

I would be pleased to receive one of these as I would normally just buy a cheaper version if I was buying it for myself.

Multi-tools are one of those things that you can have several of!

The cyclist who has everything just wants time to go riding, so go ride with him, or take your mum out to lunch so he is free.

    Magazine Sub?

Either this here publication, or perhaps something more roadie if that is where his persuasions lie (Cyclist, Rouleur)

I’d be very happy to receive a Rapha Essentials Case.

The Rapha arm warmers, knee warmers and socks are nice kit and not ridiculously expensive – I’ve bought them as gifts for a few friends…

You can never buy the right bit of bike kit for a true fanatic, because half of the pleasure is in choosing, comparing, researching it – not just owning it!

Instead, come at it from a different angle and buy him something bike related, but totally impractical – like the park Tools toilet roll holder above, or a unique piece of bike art. This is the one I wish someone had bought me for my last birthday…

what about an OS map with his house at the centre? assuming he rides on the road he can plan routes to his hearts desire, got one for a friend recently and he was well chuffed!

Cycling Mag sub is a good shout
Don’t buy any cycling clothing, chances are you’ll get it wrong
Other than that your only real option with that budget is to play it safe with consumables (inner tubes, oil, degreaser etc.) but even that’s a minefield

Toilet roll holder is a good idea but I’d +lots the go for a ride with him suggestion. Perhaps plan a nice route with a good pub to stop at for lunch and pre-arrange a collection option in case you get a bit tipsy and don’t fancy the ride home.
