I’ve posted a couple of times for some bike parts (in For Sale) I want to sell but have had a very low hit rate.

I know I might be asking too much money or maybe no-one’s looking for the things I’m selling but I’m also wondering which day and what times are best to post for sale items to make sure they at least get seen by a reasonable number of people?

i think, in general, you are asking too much for what you are selling. It’s a fine art and not something i’m very good at, but yep thats my thought.

can you tell how many views you get? Maybe it’s the price thats wrong? But failing that a good old why is my crap not selling post helps

normally I find either lunch time or mid-evening are the best times and have highest chance of being spotted by classifieds browsers.

Having had a look at your last couple of posts though I think the lack of interest may be down to a combination of price, and some non-special parts that although not necessarily over priced, are easier for people to buy online at similar prices and actually get the model they want. (ie: the bars/stem, tyre etc.)

Also, just a thought, but quote prices including postage, it’s always a put off if people have to try and work out how much it will cost to post, then wonder if you’re going to use the same service as they would and end up in a postage cost discussion.

Morning is a good time as most of these workshy fops spend half of their working day on stw.

Get to office – log on – get tea/coffee – browse calender – log on to stw – post shite – home time.

I’ve posted FS ads her and elsewhere and it seems to be just luck as to whether you get a bite. Tried selling a tyre on here and got no nibbles, someone else posted selling the same tyre and it was gone in 2 hours for more than I was asking!

No one wants to spend that much on stock handlebars etc.

Just looked at your FS stuff – have a feeling it’s your pricing in addition to demand as to what you are selling.

OEM kit never attracts much as it’s not bling or generally the best in terms of weight. Unless it’s and exception and really decent stuff and in which case post the specs – eg weights, angles etc.

OK thanks for the feedback, I guess the OEM stuff is good quality but doesn’t float many people’s boat unless they have that brand already. I didn’t think the OEM stuff was massivly overpriced but it’s not selling so maybe it is 🙂

The other parts such as the shock, wheels etc don’t seem really overpriced but maybe they are a bit more specialist in the fact that if you don’t want that wheelset, for example, then you’ll not want to pay decent money for it? I guess if you’re just looking for a 650b wheelset then a brand new £500 wheelset for £350 still looks expensive?

I guess that everyone wants a bargain and so decent stuff either goes fairly cheap or just doesn’t go 🙂

I might try my luck on that other popular listings site 🙂
