I’ve lived in Devon for just over a year. I really don’t want to move anywhere else – it’s lovely, folk are friendly, great place to raise a family and has pretty much everything you want if you’re into outdoorsy stuff apart from proper mountains (although Dartmoor is a pretty good substitute).

If you twisted my arm then I’d happily live in Northern Pembrokeshire for similar reasons with the added bonus that it’s less touristy.

South Devon or Pembrokeshire. Could stay in either for the rest of my days, but not so many datacenters there so it’s unlikely at present :-/

Is there an echo in here? 🙂

Don’t discount it completely. I was lucky enough to find an IT job here. A lot more “generalist” than what I did previously but lots more varied and I’ve learnt a lot.

If you’re in that line of work, there are a few firms around the Exeter area who you could contact – South West Comms have a smallish datacenter for example.

If i didn’t have to worry about money then probably Powys or Shropshire.

edit: or worry about the gf going mental from lack of things for her to do

I rather like monmouthshire although I’m now sampling Somerset. I only know that I’d have to be bribed to live (back ‘home’) in the West Midlands or anywhere in the south-east.

Anywhere by the sea, although Cornwall is very nice! Cambridge isn’t too bad but I’ve had my fill!

+1 for anywhere by the sea.

Don’t really understand how people manage to live without it!

So far have lived in Avon, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Cheshire and County Durham.

I would gladly return to live in any one of them but have enjoyed living in County Durham the most (been up here for 15 years now).

I have lived in Yorkshire, Devon, Somerset and Dorset. Based on personal experience Devon wins hands down.
Making a decision for me only and not the family (for the biking) I would consider Cumbria but it’s colder and wetter oop there!
And all our family are darn sarf which helps.

Just moved to Roxburghshire (better known as Scottish Borders), hard to find anywhere better for MTBing in the UK.
