   Shortly i'm going to be left without a car (or house, or girlfriend) and with not much money, as such i need suggestions for a new bike!

   Needs to be able to take a Hamax siesta child seat (mounts on the seat tube)will be used for all weather commuting duties too but thats only 5 miles each way.

   Second hand preferably as cash is tight, if its cheap enough i might get away witout selling my Genius (which due to the suspension arrangements cant take the child seat)

   Previous taxi bike was my girlfriends old HT but thats out for obvious reasons.

   If you are skint look for a good old skool rigid mtb and put slicks and guards on it.Its a nice stable platform to carry a nipper round and ok for a short commute.I hope things improve for you as well .

   Keep your eye on the classifieds here and elsewhere, something will pop up.

   Or put up a wanted ad. Plenty of bikes that will fit that bill sat around in garages and sheds not doing owt I reckon.

   Aye, what Edrik said makes sense... even if it's shagged, old-tech components are cheap, I replaced every part of the drivetrain and gears on my retro-awful-scaff-bike for about what I'd expect to pay for a chain and cassette for a new bike. And that old kit goes on and on, since there's about twice as much metal in it.
