Gave up vegetarianism for Lent. It was 4 years ago.

I think I’ve done rather well.

why do we have to give something up – just because a book of fiction tells us to is not a good enough reason for giving up something I like.

I think we should tke something up instead. spend 40 days and nights learning a new skill and then come good friday you can say you learned something new. I think I might call this period ‘Borrowed’ as you might have to borrow something like a guitar to practice your new skill

Nowt. I’m not in favour of self-flagellation by proxy on behalf of a mythical self-harming schizophrenic with delusions of grandeur.

You don’t. It’s optional as far as I am aware.
Lets not turn this into another religion bashing thread please.

I’ve not drank since boxing day, so may continue with that…

Whilst not religious myself, I like the how the idea of Lent encourages people to look at themselves – so the ‘doing something’ for 40 days’ sounds like a good idea.

i have a fair crack at lent every year..
not because i m religious, far from it.
However one of the most impressive people i have ever met was and in her memory i try to change something in my life for the better.. i m not always sucessful nor does it often last past Easter but at least i spare a thought for a good person almost every day for over a month.. and that cant be a bad thing..

Nowt not religious so don’t see the point, you’re better off doing it other times of the year and more likely to succeed! enjoy though.
