as above, ive just bought some shimano boots… I have seal skins, but wonder if i'd be better off with some warm hiking socks?

My new Extremities Merino ones – £5 in the Extremeties clearance as seconds 🙂

Woolie Boolies are ace.

Sealskins on top, thin merino sock under that (Sealskins do one just for this purpose). Even if you leak, you'll still be warm in any conditions you're ever likely to ride in.
