  • What alcohol should I buy?

Looking to buy a nice bottle of alcohol. It will be opened at a specific occasion (hopefully a celebration), which will occur at some point in the next 2-50 years, hopefully closer to 2 though.

    Budget of £50.

Whisky would be logical (especially as I studied in Edinburgh so could get a local one), but not a huge fan.

Any thoughts? (silly and sensible suggestions welcome).

    Ta,
    Duane.

Quite a fan of rum, so that could work.

I’m partial to the odd bit of vodka too..

+1 for Sloe gin. Not sure how long it improves for though but its never had chance to find out in my house.

Yeah, that’s the problem, need something that will last – otherwise I’d get champagne.

I think you need a selection, some bubbly to start with. Some nice gin as an aperitif. Whisky for mains and some port to finish. Perhaps some rum for later on, in case you get a bit peckish.

Go to aldi, get 30 big bottles of 660ml señorita beater, and still have a fiver left for a kebab. Job done.

I’m not really a bourbon person, hate JD and Jim Beam and the like, but a friend persuaded me to try a nip of Rowan’s Creek whilst I was over in America. It’s truly a thing of wonder. You can definitely feel the 50.05% alcohol as it evaporates in your mouth, but there’s no horrible burn such as you get with really poor booze. Just a glorious honey-sweet flavour that melts into your tongue and a nice warm glow at the back of the throat. I bought some in the US for $40, but I think it’s about £45 over here. I will be purchasing again, even at that price.

Well if you’re drinking that shite… I reckon a good bottle of bourbon would be a good purchase.

    Cheers for all the replies!

Think I’ll go for gin – but not sloe. Any more thoughts on what’s decent?
