  • What 26" tyres do your kids use?

This might have been asked but…
My son needs something chunky to give him a bit more confidence on the bumpy tech stuff.
I’m thinking High Roller XCs but not sure of the weight.
What’s good and grippy without being madly heavy or with massive rolling resistance?

    And cheap… 😉

    Cheers

    EDIT: He’s nigh on 11 riding a Kona hardtail…

Geax Gato 26 x 1.9 on my 12 yr olds Lardrock , not massively knobbly but he doesn’t throw the bike about like a loon .I paid £5.99 a tyre from On One last year CRC were selling them at the same price earlier this year.

PM or email me (i’ll send you my email)…got a garage full of 26 inch tyres no longer used, some never even fitted to a rim!
Will happily donate them to your lad if you contribute postage?

11 and 14 yr olds. They are both on 27.5, the only 26’ers are on my bike 😕

I’d say racing ralph 2.25. Lightweight, fast rolling and grip really well for such a lightweight tyre.

    racing ralph

    grip really well

Depending on where you ride imo. I and mrs_oab find them mildly grippy, until it’s damp or wet, at which point I may as well use kippers zip ties to the rim for tyres… 😯

Do Specialised still do 26 tyres? Not a child specific view but….

I have always liked them from a value for grip basis (I don’t experiment much with tyres!)

The Control tyres are pretty light imo and ghetto tubeless (cut tube) friendly.

    I’ve used 2x Captain or Captain + Purgatory (f)

For drier weather Fast Track + Captain/Purg

Of course if he’s braver or more talented than me (quite possible) there could be better choices.

My current 26″ combo is Hans Dampf 2.35 up front and Specialized Purgatory Control 2.3 out back. I use it all year round, and I love it.

26″ Nobby Nic Evo f+r here on the boy’s bike – light and grippy enough for his sort of riding.
