So what’s good for street/landscape photography
    Not a slr
    Smaller the better
Not bothered about a zoom lens
    Sub £300 if possible

    WHAT YOU GOT?

    iPhone.

And if you’re going to be a photographer, you should probably learn to spell “lens.” HTH.

Panasonic Lumix GX800. About £350 with the kit lens.
It is rather small. The tilting screen is nice for street photography.

Sony RX100 – mk1 can be had for under your budget new, mkii for a bit over, or mkiii on fleabay s/h

Sounds like a job for a (used) Ricoh GR, ie fixed lens, solid build, good ergonomics, snap-focus, a well-regarded street-shooting lineage and they come in just on yr budget.

Sony RX100 is good (read great) IQ, but not convinced the zoom is sturdy for the job. Mine broke after a year of v careful use. Also is a fiddly, faffy little thing to operate IMO.

A little more than £300 but the Sony A6000 is an excellent camera. Its mirroless too so snaller than a DSLR with all the functions of one. Definatley worth every penny.

Slight hijack as it’s for the daughter, maybe for Christmas. Anything around 100 quid?

Sony A5100 is smaller and cheaper than the A6000, but with pretty much the same internals (just lacking the viewfinder). Over budget, but could get there in next weeks sales bonanza

    2nd the GX800.
Very small body for a M4/3 and with the collapsible kit lens it’s a great little setup.

Add a couple of the small prime’s when ready and you have a flexible, portable setup that takes excellent photos.

I’d say the lenses on the Sony systems make the package too big for ‘smaller the better’.

Ricoh is a good shout for something a bit different.

Thanks for all the input – I’ll see what pops up in the sales.
