A few months back MBR (yes I know, I'm sorry…) gave away a free, wired bike computer which I thought would be utterly useless. However, as all blokes do, I declined to throw it away and put it into the bike "bits and pieces" box.

Fast forward to today, and a bodge of zip ties and cut inner tubes to mount it all up to run off the rear wheel, and I now have a computer to use on my new turbo trainer!

So what else have you filed away as completely useless but not thrown away, only to find a use for it further down the line?

You never know when a dead inner-tube will come in handy.
Also all the mounting brackets from old lights, computers et c.
Great quantities of nuts and bolts.
    Worn tyres.
    A halfords/tesco full suss frame.
    No-name wheels with grindey bearings.
    Worn-out chainrings.

Cripes, I need to get to the tip.

    But on the other hand..
