Looking for a little help from the mechanics out there….

My old Five has suddenly started making a rumbling noise (and feel, through the pedals) under pedalling, bit like a knackered wheel bearing in a car. Happens in both rings and all sprockets, only when pedalling, also back pedalling. Indexing seems fine. Transmission is clean (or more accurately, it’s been a lot dirtier) but probably in the last third of its life for the chain and sprockets. It’s not the pedals. No play in the BB, next step is to take the chain off and see if the BB spins smooth.
I’m thinking freehub bearings (though it doesn’t do it freewheeling?) or BB, IME they normally go wobbly rather than noisy? Both are Hope if it helps. Grateful for any ideas!

Are they big enough to rumble? Only ever had them squeak before!
