Had family stuff to do this weekend, so 1/2 hour on the rollers yesterday and then a 45min blast as it got dark to try out a new line i’d scoped earlier in the day, resulted in:
Don’t do photos really but we did Climb out from Hayfield up Coldwell Clough and descended Jacobs Ladder, climbed Greenlands, descended Back Tor Farm, Jaggers Clough, The Beast, Roman Road into Hope, Pindale, Dirtlow Rake, Cavedale, Broken Road, Roych Clough, Mount famine and South Head back to Hayfield and finished on the Camp-site descent.
Great day out, just a pity about the head wind and hail
From the looks of my strava feed there were quite a few STW members around the dark peak on Sunday. The freezing cold water splashing up from below was challenging… apart from that bit 20 mins from the end of the ride (knowing you have warm dry clothes in the car) when you choose to embrace the wet for the sake of speed and smiles. 🙂
I got some cheeky trail rage on friday. was ‘exploring’ in some woods local to me to see if there was a linking trail between some other good trails.
for such a small lady she had some serious rage. I got threats of police, she wanted my name and address. We settled on I’d leave the way I came and not come back….
I had a blast up Woodbury Common on the SS yesterday afternoon.. Dipping down off the common into the rooty singletrack through the woods was a slithery sideways fest..
Usual sort of Woodbury route – ride around following your nose looking out for ribbons snaking off into the gorse.. up, down, round, back up again
The Road Less Travelled.
I found a new bridleway, just down the hill from Old Winchester Hill near Chidden. Ridden that way for 20 years but never come across this one.. As I’m using the CX a lot it seemed rude not to go explore uh hu.. Nice having Grifo’s back on again..
That there is “real ale” Finest Flower Pots IPA, 6.5%. Available once a year, they brew 2 barrels, that was getting to the end of the second.. You had to be there.. Crisps (I know a fail, you shouldn’t spoil beer with crisps) were some Smokey Bacon variant of Kettle Chips.. rather nice too.. hence the flatness in the beer.
Short ride distance wise but about 2.5 hours time wise in the worst of the weather on saturday. Hope, Roman Road, Beast, Win Hill, Parkin Clough, back up Win Hill then down to Aston.
I can’t remember the last time I got so wet on the bike. Parkin Clough was a bit crashtastic too with all that moisture!
Bit late to the party but had an early ride in the Dark Peak on Sunday. I think it’s the first time I’ve ever been able to look from Mam Tor toward Back Tor and there not be a single person in view.
I took the opportunity of a break in the rain to try out the new to me CX bike.. from Ross on Wye I headed out to Symonds Yat, the Wye is pretty high;

From there I headed to the Saracens Head before heading down to Monmoth;

Just into Monmouth and the road was flooded..

I headed out on the Wye Valley road towards Chepstow before heading up to St Briavels, the rain looked good heading up the valley, it battered me a few minutes later;

Great ride that I really enjoyed, I’m looking forward to more of the same 🙂
