    Hi all,

I'm hoping to get away at the end of the month for a quiet weekend with plenty of R&R for me and the good lady, beautiful location, great pub(s) and somewhere to walk are all high on the list, along with any suggestions of some decent walks upto about 10k.

Any suggestions/links? £100-ish a night tops! (that's total cost, not each!)

thanks in advance fountain of knowledge that is STW 😉

Coniston or Keswick for places with lots of pubs and close to big hills. Coniston has 5 pubs, Keswick has more than you'd ever need.

    Chapel Style

You have the glory of the Langdales to explore and the Wainwright Inn, one of the finest watering holes in the land.

Have bookmarked chapel stile – thank you!

A have a friend over in wastwater who said the beach is pretty lush, along with some decent drinking establishments, accommodation seems fairly limited but certainly nothing wrong!

Ideally available food would cater veggie as quiche and salad is pretty dull!!

Wasdale is lovely – not too many pubs up that way but there's a few. Patterdale/Glenridding is nice and gets you good access to Helvellyn/High Street etc

Langdale is a good shout as well imo – The Britannia in Elterwater is a pretty good pub too.

I thought it was utterly crap, poor beer, shocking food and miserable staff. "Local made burger" yeah if Iceland make their burgers in Ambleside, the chicken looked as if it came from the same place and the steak was like the Dalesteak you once could get.

The Brittania in Elterwater is way better, much better beer and very friendly staff.

Definietly the west side of the Lakes for the real "away from it all" experience – Eskdale (the Boot Inn is pretty good ) or Wasdale Head.

But plenty of good pubs and walks wherever you go, +1 for the Brittania (though it's often packed).
