I currently have this 100mm single skin construction:

it now needs a roof.

I want to avoid condensation dripping off the internal roof but do appreciate its only a single skin build (faffing with baton, insulation & board may happen in later years).

Its currently at 2.5m high and is permitted development but having spoken with the planning dept after an enquiry they won’t be fussed if my roof takes it over the 2.5m.

I’ve found the TRADA tables and NHBC info on how to build but i’m procrastinating over a cheap, effective and durable ish design.

Any tips or advice?

That will look nice with a bell tower and a spire. Stained glass optional

OH – looking at a flat roof as cheaper & will suit my beginner diy skills

Are you thinking flat roof to keep it closer to the height regs? If not its a straight forward truss for me.

Looking at the pic I’m guessing the span is just under 4m?
8×2’s in at 400 centres, nogged over the walls and at least one run down the middle. You then want to notch some wall plate straps in to the tops of the timber at 1200 centres to hold the whole structure down. Then it’s just 18mm ply top and old fashioned flat roof felt etc if you want cheap!

Id still go for a shallow pitched truss btw, then you can put stuff up in the void.

Would a shallow truss roof cost much more than a flat roof? I’d be getting a roofer/builder to do that as well out of my comfort zone.

In a word, yes! But a much better option…. If I have chance tomorrow I’ll look up some old truss prices that we had last year.

OK, I’m completely clueless about this sort of thing, but aren’t doors and windows supposed to have a long supporting member at the top? What’s it called? Lintel?

A lintel wasn’t required as the blocks are gravity free.

That style of Lintel is designed to be invisible from the front. I used a similar one:
