However Smadu took his to case to the Supreme Court, arguing the conviction should be quashed on the grounds he had “two separate legal personalities” — one which owned the motor vehicle that was speeding and another that held his driver’s licence and drove the vehicle.
He claimed the “wrong legal person” was charged.

In his ruling to throw out Smadu’s appeal, Justice Rene LeMiere said the claims were “fiction” and any detailed analysis of them would have been “a waste of judicial resources and an affront to the dignity of the court”.
Certainly a novel approach to getting out of it.
