any disadvantages anyones come across due to waxing a bike frame?

Does it discolour, is it hard to get off, muck up any components etc?

Noticed that the merida handbook that i read recommended it, though never heard of anyone doing it.

I wax frames when they're new, before putting anything else on. A couple of coats of turtle wax does wonders. The dirt doesn't stick, especially in the wet, making cleaning much easier when it does get filthy.

I'd do it to the inside of a steel frame but I wouldn't bother with anything else.

I should add that I only turtle wax gloss painted/lacquered frames, obviously it would make a matte finish gloss! I waxoyl the insides of steel frames too.
