thinking about buying some new fox forks off a bloke on ebay (outside the UK)
sounds crazy but he's doing them for literally about £200 less than rrp over here, and he's got good feedback. he's selling to the states for slightly cheaper than their rrp
possibly a silly question, but assuming he's not an official retailer, will i be entitled to any sort of warranty from fox?
IIRC the warranty is with the seller not Fox, as with any purchase.
Warranty with seller, and they in turn have contract with their supplier, whether that's Fox or someone else in a supply chain before fox, so in theory you send them back to him if you have a problem, he sends back to his supplier, etc...... plenty of places selling fox forks less than rrp over here... is it worth the risk?
Si at progressive bikes does 32' and float 36's (no warranty though which could be a biggie if you bugger forks like I do).
Buy outside the UK and you have zero warranty. Full stop.
The Fox warranties only cover you if you service the forks every hour dont they?
which forks are you looking for? there are some good deals on Fox atm, I got a '10 32 TALAS RLC FIT for 50% off msrp a couple of weeks back from a seller local to me (Brussels) although I think they made a mistake as I ordered the 09, ho hum 
Beware. Some companies (like Trek) will not warranty purchases made on eBay. That would leave you in limbo if say the seller said the item was damaged in transit. Check the small print.

they're the F29. i want the 2010 ones which come with QR15, so there aren't many places in the uk selling below rrp
they are flippin expensive and there's no way i can afford to pay full whack. otherwise i'd be looking at rebas

If its not a shop i.e some bloke selling them cheap, then its a risk you'll need to think about. They I doubt they'll be warrantied. why not ask him?
I bought a set of Float 32 RLC brand new 2 years ago off e-bay and they've been fine.
If they are looked after and serviced regularly they'll be fine.

Shipping costs, duty, VAT, return to USA for any warranty issues? ( assuming he's still around)

These F29 ones? 13% off at barracuda in Belgium. you missed a further 10% off sale a couple of weeks back and if you pay 30 euros you get a card for another 5% off. their discounts stack unlike some others I might mention but their base prices are often beaten by the UK sellers. Still, worth a look.

am I wrong...thought there was some treaty we entered into (Rome rings a bell) where if we buy from within the EU other EU importers have to honour warrantees, deal with recalls etc...pretty vaugue from the time of parallel immports of cars motorbikes etc....in theory now buying from Belgium should be like me crossing the border from Wales to buy in England?...thought this was the same rule that allows us to buy transits full of booze and fags from France for personal use!
Don't muddle up your rights under the sale of goods act and so on with warranty.
Your rights under the SOGA apply to anything bought in the UK and your claim is against the seller.
Warranty is discretionary over and above the SOGA rights and is provided by the manufacturer.
SOGA rights do not apply to things bought from out of the UK. Manufacturers warranty might or might not at the manufacturers discretion ( from inside the EC it might as in the above post - I'm not sure)
In the end - is buying cheap from the states worth the fact you have no come back if they fail?

Who said that? The warranty (as stated) is with whoever you bought them from, so if you buy from me the warranty is with me, and i then take it up with Fox

depends if he is a liscensed trader etc. if he bought them,. and sells them to you, they are potentially secondhand i.e no warranty.
So another case of Hora talking shite, do you have any Fox 36 Float or Van RC2 left Si? as I am thinking of replacing my fork, and its between a Lyrik and a Fox 36 at the moment.

Sorry but thats twaddle! I KNOW thats what fox quote, but a gentle rinse after a ride, wipe clean and lube the wiper seals and stanchions before use, put upside down for 5 mins to allow the internal oil to soak to the top bushing and they'll be fine.
That's fine for general maintenance. But have you tried having any warranty repairs done after servicing them yourself?

what were your experiences of this breatheasy? I'm interested as I've always had my forks shop serviced in the past but recently have been considering getting into doing it myself.
The Fox (and I suspect RS) warranty does state that servicing should be done by an authorized centre though so they could disavow on a technicality even if you had done a decent job
and for the "OMG you have to service/fiddle with fox forks every 15 hours" crowd I looked this up and the actual legs off service is only required every 100 hours (compared to 50 for RS) general maintenance and servicing requirements for both Fox and RS appear similar (within bounds) I posted it separately but it's bloody long. The fiddling (dust seal lubrication) is every 15 hours on Fox but is in fact required *every ride* by RS, which seems absolutely nuts
