Try getting referred to Leo Jacobs at Oldham, its part of the same trust. I can't vouch for him personally, but he specializes in upper limb stuff..

    Leo Jacobs as already mentioned.

Bernard Sylvester in Manchester or Mike Morris in Stockport. Both good hand/upper limb specialists, although I can't remember whether they do any NHS treatment (I use them as medico-legal experts).

Wrightington Hospital near Parbold/Wigan has a specialist upper limb NHS clinic. Professor John Stanley and Ian Trail are both based there and both highly regarded.

Heard of him. Don't think I have had any dealings with him.

    Details here:

My girlfriends wrist was sorted out really well after a nasty break by Dr Fitzgerald, who works a couple of days a week at The Spire private hospital in Whalley Range, and a couple of days at Trafford General.

Luckily she has health cover from work, and got seen privately, a friend from work is having her broken wrist mended at Trafford, and the difference in timescales between appointments, physio etc is alarming!

Email in profile if you need more info.

Can also recommend Leo Jacobs as he's operated on me twice, (arthroscopy and trigger finger release), both NHS and private. He can come across a little gruff on the NHS but that's probably due to limited time for appointments. Very good when seen privately and did a great job with the surgery.

Wrightington Hospital , (just off M6) is also very good and thorough. I saw Mr Murali there and he spent a lot of time and effort trying to sort things out.

My personal experience of Bernard Sylvester was not good. (Assuming it's the same practitioner at NMGH). He gave me a cursory 2 minute examination and told me that nothing needed to be done and that I just had RSI. He even suggested that I should consider a career change rather than look for other ways to solve my issue if it bothered me that much. (It turns out that I have an advanced form of a category of Spondyloarthropathy – A type of arthritis which is being sorted out most excellently by Dr Bowden at Highfield Hospital!)

    Hope that helps.

I've gone with Muir as someone in the trade described him as "meticulous" apparently nearly all he does is hands and wrists

he also did someone I know apparently

in on Friday to get assessed

will report back for the benefit of others
