Now FIFA would have plenty to say had it been an england game and a few idiots had caused a riot.

no word from fifa yet?
to be honest fifa & the fa are a joke
come to think of it anywhere big money and sport is involved, ioc, fia, uci
etc
they are all self regulating and no government wants to go in and upset big businesses like these

a couple of things. Having played footie at a fairly high level something like that is pure instinct. he didn't think, oh I'll just handle this ball when it comes over, it just happens. I've done it many times, and theres nothing you can do to stop it. its up to the ref to stop it, and he didn't. every other striker in the world would do exactly the same thing.
secondly there is no way tht video tehnology wil ever be implemented to stop things like this, the game would be stopped every 30 seconds.bottom line, players cheat, refs make mistakes, live with it!!!

I'm a non-football person. Can't stand it, dont see what all the fuss is about, but I'm sure the radio this morning said words to the effect of "he admitted it but was told that he wasn't a ref".

It's used in other sports?

i dont care in all honesty.
Majority of other Home country supporters seem to revel in Englands frequent balls ups and actively support the opponents.
So no sympathy from me today.

It was handball but may I applaud the magnificence of the execution, quite brilliantly done, well done Tel.

I'm sure FIFA would also have something to say if some idiots at last nights game had caused a riot too.

"there is no way tht video tehnology wil ever be implemented to stop things like this"
+1
FIFA like to keep thing equal for all football associations, therefore if video replays were implemented then all those skint african teams would not be able to afford expensive video kit.
Its got nowt to do with breaking the 'flow' of the game. It works perfectly well in rugby and other sports. I'd very much like to see it implemented. Divers should get a immediate red card and a 5 match ban. It beggars belief that cheating is encouraged in football.

Arrant nonsense, rugby doesn't flow, neither do cricket or NFL.
Besides there are many situations when multiple viewing from multiple angles still does not provide a substantive conclusion.

Bimbler, that is the offical policy from FIFA
"Besides there are many situations when multiple viewing from multiple angles still does not provide a substantive conclusion."
I think you'll find that there are even more situations where it does.
"well done Tel" - ah that explains it - you are a total cock

That would do wonders for the flow of the game, lets all stand around for 5 minutes while we argue whether that was a free kick/penalty/corner whatever.
I actually agree with the FIFA dictat on this one, part of the beauty of the game is that it's played to the same rules everywhere, Hackney Marshes to World Cup finals.
"well done Tel"
Lovely technique though, non? The way he just cut it back for Gallas to knock it in, peachy.

+1 even though Ireland are a foreign nation not a home nation as such.
Can't believe it took all that time before someone said it.

The beautiful game! My arse..my heart bleeds NOT.

I asked Gillete if they wanted to be associated with a cheat. Here's their reply:
Gillette is aware of the HENRY handball incident in the France v Ireland World Cup qualifier. Thierry Henry has publicly acknowledged that it was a handball. It is not our place to comment on the refereeing in the match. This incident does not affect his relationship with us.
Kind regards,

Henry and co step up their World Cup training schedule.
Posted 2 years ago # -
He knew he'd hand-balled it. He didn't have the quality to tell the ref. He's not a gentleman, he's a cheat.

It's reported even Arsene Wenger saw it!
Watched game in a local Irish run bar (I have been here 42 years) and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Gutted. Didn't expect to win beforehand but to lose like that is so disappointing.

[Devil's advocate mode] It's not like either team were/are going to go on and win the whole tournament though is it? [/Devil's advocate mode]

meh...wasn't that bad. Happens all the time. And it's not as if Ireland were going to be any good to watch in the World Cup now, was it?

a FIFA source has told Press Association Sport: "There is no way the game can be replayed.
"To do so would cause absolute chaos for football. If it was replayed, then every match in the future would also be subject to these calls for a replay any time a referee misses an incident.
"FIFA's rules are absolutely clear. Law five states that a referee's decision on points of fact are final. That is the end of it. You cannot replay the match on this basis.
"You have to have a rule that says the referee's judgement is always right."
exactly. not to say that every fan hasn't at some point wanted wrongs from a game to be put right, eg. the scandalous penalty decisions of arsenal v liverpool CL 2008, but the idea that it would be replayed is ridiculous.

flatboy - I agree with the FIFA stance on replays, but surely they could incorporate a "bringing game into disrepute" law against individuals (players or managers) who take the piss and are caught taking the piss after the match on video.
