I imagine a few of you have one of these.

I’m looking at getting an ’07 Passat SEL TDI – the 170 bhp version (without DSG).

Do these all have the red ‘I’ on the badge? I’ve found one that looks good but I’m not sure how you can tell the SEL (170) from the SE (140) at a glance. Any tips?

On the previous model (B5.5) it used to state the engine power in PS on the vehicle information plate on the driver’s side B pillar.

The “Red i” or in fact D or T was used for the engine power hierarchy in the range at any one time, the more power the more red. Again for the B5 & B5.5, initially the 90ps was without and the 110ps had a red i, as they introduced the 115, 130 & V6’s the combination changed up to a red TDi.

Not sure at that age. Many TDIs don’t have a badge at all.

Could be legit – the reg plate checker on confused.com says it’s SEL.

I’ve emailed them for a viewing and a snoop on Saturday.

I own an 07 Passat 170 Sport TDi (with DSG) and it does have a red i on the badge. Often wondered why this is the case.
