I currently use SSRS 2008 r2, which runs i think runs as an extension in Visual Studio.

I am trying a few experiments and have started to use code within the reports.

But writing code in plain text isn’t the most helpful way of learning where mistakes are. I prefer it when i have colour coding, error messages that sort of thing.

I know there are various VB.net studio versions available from MS. Are these plugins in the Visual Studio i use, are they separate programs? Are they free, paid for etc.

Can i simply dowload plugins, or would i be best off downloading a copy of Visual Studio Express?

I guess you’re referring to the Code bit in Report Properties?

I would just install Visual Studio Express to write the VB code with the syntax formatter. You’ll then have to just copy the code into the box in Business Intelligence Studio. Or you could package it up into an assembly and reference that in the report.

    Aren’t colours set in tools/options?

or do you need more than that gives?
