Just rebuilding a m8's laptop for him, with his Vista recovery disc.
    How many fricken updates?
It's been rebooted about 20 time so far and had updates d/ling the whole time, and I've only just got to SP2.
I've totally avoided touching vista before, and from what I can see, it was for good reason.

Bejesus even XP, years older, doesn't have this many.

So you can't just go straight to the latest service pack? That's poo.

nope, left it too it, as it never reported having SP1 or SP2 installed previously – no doubt part of the reason why I ended up with it, to rebuild.
I was left wondering if Home still had a SP1 & 2.. now I know.
I've literally never touched a Vista machine before now, it's been good avoiding it.

Still reckon they should have just bought Win7 from software 4 students

Had to do it 3 times recently whilst my hard drive was dying lol

New hard drive arrived when it finally died and I've put windows 7 ulitmate on it.

Vista is ok, I certainly never had any issues with it but I think the sheer amount of updates over the short period it was microsofts latest OS, kind of highlight how flawed it actually was and how rushed it was.

Very happy with windows 7 😉

If that was an option, then yes, definitely 🙂

there complaining about being skint… will happen at some point, but the machine may behave a bit better now it's actually got some free disc space and the major SP's have installed.
