Any thoughts? I’ve been into programmes- remove (its not showing there) but outfox is on my toolbar (and opens itself upon start up).

Also- in my programs:

“Internet explorer toolbar 4.6 by sweetpacks” is present.

Try to remove:

THe feature that you are trying to remove is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click ok to try again or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package sweetiesetup.msi in the box below (cant do/find).

I’d be very, very careful if you’re going to follow the instructions in that link. You could very easily kill your system if you get it wrong.

MalwareBytes would be my first port of call.

You want to get rid of sweetpacks for a start but that can be tricky. You can try ccleaner, that has an app removal tool as well. ccleaner is worth a run anyway, the free version has been good for me. After that go into the browser settings and look at your addons and start up options. You will need to do this for all browsers.

My usual routine is to run the following, all in safe mode.

Rkill – Rootkit killer which makes them easier to remove.

eset online scanner

Malwarebytes

Spybot search and destroy (if the above hasn’t worked).

FWIW, McAfee and Malwarebytes aren’t particularly good bedfellows, nothing bad, but McAfee won’t install until you uninstall MBAM. Oh, and thanks to others for the tips in another post on a similar subject. Nearly sorted 🙂

McAfee would be first on the list to be removed. Its ones of those sneaky apps that installs itself with various bits of free software if you forget to uncheck the box.

We use McAfee as our corporate AV solution. Gods only know why, all I can think is it must be cheap. Hateful piece of software from a hateful bloody company.

Our program doesn’t contain a virus, but it’s in the interests of certain claimed IT support or low end unheard of anti-virus software sellers to spread posts across forums. Outfox TV has an inbuilt uninstaller, and if you have any issues with it, we offer free support via put help desk, email below.

Please follow uninstall tips below.

Windows 8 : 

a) Place your cursor on the bottom right corner of the screen until you see the sidebar come up. Click “Settings,” then click “Control Panel.” 

b) Click “Programs and Features” from the Control Panel screen.

c) Scroll down through the program list until you find OutfoxTV.

If OutfoxTV appears, click on it and choose “Change” or ‘Uninstall’ to Uninstall

If you wish to remove the Application and also remove the saved browser tabs that provide a link to www.outfox.tv, ensure you select the “Remove www.outfox.tv from saved browser tab/homepage” checkbox, then click Uninstall.

Other Versions of Windows : 

Use Windows Explorer to browse to c:/Program Files/OutfoxTV

If OutfoxTV appears, double click the “uninstaller” file to Uninstall

If you wish to remove the Application and also remove the saved browser tabs that provide a link to www.outfox.tv, ensure you select the “Remove www.outfox.tv from saved browser tab/homepage” checkbox, then click Uninstall.

IF UNABLE TO FIND OUTFOXTV or the uninstaller .exe file in the above, the uninstaller must have been run previously, or the OutfoxTV folder has been deleted manually.  If you recall seeing the Uninstall Success message, you can be comfortable the program has been removed. If not, THE BEST METHOD TO ENSURE THE FULL UNINSTALL ROUTINE RUNS PROPERLY, IS TO REINSTALL, THEN UNINSTALL. If the folder was deleted manually this will not have properly uninstalled the program. 

We suggest you reinstall the latest version of OutfoxTV downloadable from www.outfox.tv, then RUN THE UNINSTALLER as shown in Step (1) above.  This should ensure the program and all features are correctly removed.  Once the uninstaller completes, please restart your computer to complete the process of folder removal.

If you google outfoxtv, there are loads of threads from people who are unable to get rid of this software, closely followed by the people behind it denying that it is is a virus… Sounds like a well developed product 🙄

Presumably if people are assuming it’s a virus, it’s because they didn’t willingly or knowingly install it in the first place? Did it come packaged with some other software?

Personally I prefer outrockshox.tv as I find it less hassle to service.

For as much as it matters, our buddy is correct in saying it’s not a virus; it’s what’s known as a “Potentially Unwanted Program.” Other terms often used are “foisterware” and “crapware”. As Mrs Toast asks, this stuff is commonly bundled with other “free” software; it relying on people blindly hitting “next” during an install without reading what’s being asked.

I think this is particularly weaselly: “it’s in the interests of certain claimed IT support or low end unheard of anti-virus software sellers to spread posts across forums. “Sure, all the poor technicians and AV vendors are ganging up on the poor maligned software to spread lies about it, for their own ends (and I’d love to know what Oscar thinks IT Support staff have to gain by doing so, we’d all be chuffed to mintballs if we never had to deal with stuff like this ever again). Browser redirects and homepage hijacking are of course common tools used by legitimate software ..oO

I’d expect / hope that the instructions provided by Oscar may well work in removing it, though personally I’d be wary of blindly following instructions provided by the people who actively want you to have their sofware installed and employ sneaky tactics to put it there in the first place. Ask yourself this; how many web pages can you find going “hey guys, check out this great new software I’ve found, you should all go get it!” At the very least, I’d want to be running a malware scan after removal to make sure it’s gone completely.
