Bought a miche primato track hub for my pompino build. First time I have dabbled in this single speed world
The primato hub is fixed one side and freewheel the other side (Stepped for freewheel and lockring I think?)

Purchased a shimano freewheel of CRC for the hub and the thread is perfect and it goes on fine, but then I cannot get the lockring on top of it as the stepped thread is hidden by the freewheel thing

Do I need the lockring with this freewheel?

You've put the freewheel on the wrong side. It's fixed sprockets that need the lockring. The freewheel will work fine on the fixed side though, there should be plenty of thread engaged.

freewheel goes on other side, stepped side is for fixed cog and lockring.

IIRC Don't think you need a lockring with a freewheel, usually use a lockring with the fixed track cog- stops it unscrewing when breaking with your legs, recent discussions on the subject of lockrings suggested many folk get by without one on the fixed side too… 😯

I'll be sure to screw it up on the other side then, cheers lads
