I currently have a Virgin Media broadband/TV/phone package.

The contract is in my name, payed from my bank account.

There is currently very good cashback available to NEW Virgin customers.

Would it count as a “new customer” if I cancel my existing contract & my wife signs up to one instead?

Or is our address somehow factored in & Virgin would not treat it as a new customer?

Check their T&Cs on their website.

I will, however, be shocked if it’s not tied to your address, if only to stop exactly the sort of scam you’re proposing.

You’d be better off ringing them and trying to haggle a better deal IMHO.

I don’t see how it’s a scam. You don’t even need to change whose account it is. I just generally phone up and say I’m moving to Sky. If they call my bluff, it doesn’t matter cos the new customer deal at Sky is generally better than the existing one with Virgin. If they capitulate, which they always have so far, I get to sign up for another 12 months with “new customer” prices but keep the same phone number, etc. Done it twice in the last 5 years.

… which is why I suggested haggling.

Treated as a new customer. We were about to do the same, but got bounced to retentions who offered a superb package including the new Tivo box etc etc, for less than we currently pay! Win win!
