I am looking for something like this

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/x-tools-wallmount-bike-storage-hanger/rp-prod10230

but for 2.4 + tyres and ideally as “posh” looking as possible, about to embark on turning my garage into a proper room (conversion) but still keeping the bikes in there.

Something handmade in wood/similar would be lovely if anyone knows someone who makes one?

    Appreciated

I can fit a 3″ tyre in hooks similar to that.

    If you want posh looking you might want to consider these;

I’ve got them in my flat and they work really well, you can slide them along the rail and there’s different types of hooks available as well

    I’m also interested.
Space is tight in my store so bikes need to be vertical quite close to each other with bars loosened and rotated at 90deg.

I use these Mottez hooks for all other bikes and they work well (should fit 3inch) but probably not as stylish as you want.

Fat bike wheels don’t fit in though so it has to take the weight of the bike using the point of the hook in the middle of the rim. This worked ok until I went tubeless but now the point pushes the rim strip in to the wheel causing the seal to break and the tyre to deflate.

I have beeen looking for a bigger version for about a year now.

Have found plenty of large hooks but as I need to mount in to a wooden post no deeper than 50mm it is difficult to get something pointing the right way so that the wheel sits vertically against the wall whilst also allowing the fixing points to be arranged verticaly instead of horizontally.

If anybody knows where I could get a larger version of the thing at the link, or can knock one up then let me know.

This is what we’re going for in the bike palace (currently under construction)

Length of 2″x4″ fixed to the wall, bunch of these threaded into it.

Working on up to 2.8″ tyres for me, no hassle

Thanks. Those steady rack seem on point. The ones i linked to say you cant fit a 2.3 tyre in. I had a handcrafted woden thing in my head but shiny works too!

I have those hooks which didn’t fit a 3″ tyres. Vice and mallet means it does now.

    Those £5 jobbies from Planet X will take a 3″ 29er tyre.

Those are modifiable – you can bend the hook so it’s not quite so hooky. This works fine for my MTB with 2.4″ tyres. To clarify, they don’t even fit standard 2.1 MTB tyres without modification. However, I doubt you could bend them enough to fit plus-sized tyres, let alone fat bike tyres. They’re not really any better than decent hooks, though.

My bikes aren’t beautiful enough that they will ever look elegant whilst hanging. I’m not sure you’ll ever make them look good.

THey are currently hanging 2.3, 2.5 and 2.8 tyres in my shed, unmodified

Hmm. I had to modify mine. They work fine now though.
