  • Velcro Chainstay Protection…

Probably an obvious question to some, but if you use self-adhesive Velcro as a chainstay protector, do you use the hook or loop side? Just need to know before ordering. Thanks.

Both sides are a mud trap and the adhesive will fail at the edges.

Do something longer lasting such as an inner tube wound round and fixed with cable ties or Self-Amalgamating Plumber Tape or buy a Lizard Skin type cover (assuming not a modern Spesh or Trek with built-in polymer guard).

Velcro’s more for silencing a noisy bike/serious protection rather than everyday chainstay protector IMO. Old inner tube for me, and velcro only on the big bike as otherwise it sounds like the swingarm’s full of nails

Thanks guys. It’s for a new Five (didn’t want to open the usual can of worms!); just thought that a lizard skin type cover would migrate along the tapered chainstay – so Velcro isn’t the answer?
